Only a little over a month ago, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan announced that it would soon be opening an office in Washington, D.C.

Now the 500-lawyer West Coast-based litigation powerhouse is about to open an office in Russia, the Am Law Daily reports.

The firm’s new office, its 10th, will initially be staffed by two lawyers from Dechert’s shop there, Ivan Marisin and Vasily Kuznetsov, who came to that firm in 2010 from Clifford Chance.

However, more expansion is planned: John Quinn, the firm’s managing partner, expects to have 10 lawyers there within six months.

Quinn said the firm is expanding to Russia as an outgrowth of the matters being handled in its three-year-old London office, the legal publication reports.

“Representing Russians and those with Russian interests is a big practice in London,” he said. The Moscow office “will assist us in representing those clients and raising our profile in the business and legal community in Russia.”
