Editors weren’t the only headache for a federal sex crimes prosecutor who wrote a legal thriller.

Seven prosecutors had to vet the racy book, Law of Attraction, sex scenes and all, the Washington Post reports. The story describes the novel by Allison Leotta as a “chick-lit legal thriller” that includes “a love triangle, cynical and corrupt cops, ethical quandaries and bizarre plot twists.” The main character is a rookie prosecutor assigned to a murder case who, like Leotta, is a Harvard law grad.

The prosecutors found some mistakes in their review, including a reference to a cop placing carpet samples into a Ziploc bag. The cop would use a paper bag, Leotta learned, because the plastic bag would degrade the evidence.

Law of Attraction ranked third on Kindle’s list of legal thrillers in the first week of publication. The Post has this passage from the book:

“He slowly brought his face to hers. … Nick whispered that she was beautiful, stunning, exquisite, incandescent. She smiled and whispered back that he was a thesaurus.”

Leotta is also the author of the blawg The Prime-Time Crime Review, one of the ABA Journal’s 4th Annual Blawg 100.
