A Washington state man accused of taping his sexual assaults of boys is allowed to watch the videos he made from jail.

A judge granted the defendant, Marc Gilbert, access to the tapes found in a police search of his home because he is acting as his own lawyer, report KomoNews.com, ABC News and the Wall Street Journal Law Blog. Gilbert, a former United Parcel Service pilot, is accused of luring boys to his home after giving them rides in his sea plane, boat or helicopter, according to the ABC report.

Pierce County prosecutor Mark Lindquist plans to appeal the judge’s decision. “This is one of the most absurd and maddening rulings I’ve seen in my 16 years as a prosecutor,” Lindquist told the Wall Street Journal Law Blog. “What’s additionally absurd about this is that this is child pornography that the defendant created.”
