Police Seek Leads in Yesterday's Killing of Pa. Lawyer
Police have few leads in Wednesday’s killing of a Pennsylvania lawyer, who was shot in the back of the head at point-blank range as he was walking across the parking lot toward his law office.
They are scouring Eric Birnbaum’s client list in his plaintiffs personal injury practice, to see if any could have a grievance against him. And this morning they did a rush-hour traffic stop, questioning motorists and handing out leaflets, in an effort to find new leads, according to WPM-TV, an ABC News affiliate.
The Terry D. Goldberg & Associates law firm in the Gateway Shopping Center in Northampton Township in Bucks County, where the 51-year-old attorney worked, remains closed today.
Witnesses—who include a female co-worker with whom Birnbaum had been chatting in the parking lot—say the suspect was a white male about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing sunglasses and a pullover knit cap and sunglasses, and had been sitting in a vehicle outside a nearby delicatessen before the shooting, according to the station and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“We have no idea what could have precipitated it,” Northampton Police Chief Barry Pilla tells the newspaper. Authorities say Birnbaum, a divorced father of two daughters, apparently had no enemies, and was described by those who know him as friendly, generous, well-organized and dedicated to his job, the Inquirer reports.
He was a graduate of the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
