Natural Gas Reserve in Western Pa. Prompts Law Firms to Open Offices in the Region
Eager for lucrative energy work, global law firms and boutiques alike are flocking to Western Pennsylvania’s enormous Marcellus Shale natural gas reserve.
Previously unattainable, new large-scale drilling technology has made it possible to tap these reserves in central and western Pennsylvania that beckon firms with a significant presence in the energy industry to take advantage of what has been called “this century’s gold rush,” according to a recent Hildebrandt Institute blog post.
Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney opened an office in the Southpointe area of Cannonsburg, Pa., in September; Houston-based Burleson now boasts 30 lawyers in its office there. Steptoe & Johnson opened a second office in the region in December 2010, and Fulbright & Jaworski opened a new office in Southpointe this year.
