O.J. Simpson Robbery and Kidnapping Trial Starts Today
Jury selection begins today in O.J. Simpson’s trial on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping. The former football star is at the courthouse after he was pulled over while driving near Las Vegas yesterday.
Simpson was driving a Chevrolet Suburban when state troopers pulled him over to investigate a report from a person at a gas station that he appeared to have been drinking, Fox News reports. Troopers found no signs of intoxication and let him go.
Simpson is accused of trying to take football memorabilia in an incident at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino. Simpson claimed the items had been stolen from him. Four co-defendants have pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the case and are expected to testify.
Simpson arrived at the courthouse this morning, smiling and waving at a person who called out “Good luck,” the Associated Press reports.
The case is expected to be the most high-profile criminal trial in Las Vegas history, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. “An army” of broadcast news trucks are camped out in the parking lot, and 470 journalists from 50 media outlets have received press badges from the court, the newspaper says.
