Officials Say Killer May Have Known Murdered Florida Lawyer
Although authorities earlier said that a Florida lawyer found dead in a canal near her home last week might have been a random robbery and abduction target, they now believe she may have known her killer.
However, there appears to have been no connection between the death of Melissa Lewis, 39, and the Ft. Lauderdale firm at which she was a partner, according to the Miami Herald. A labor and employment lawyer at Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler, she wasn’t working on any case that involved a client who would have harmed her, says Stuart Rosenfeldt, the firm’s president and founding partner.
Police in the Plantation suburb in which Lewis lived say they have executed search warrants and seized a vehicle that could be connected to her murder, the newspaper reports. ”The investigation is going in a positive direction,” says Phil Toman, a Plantation police detective.
