New York lawyer is fatally shot by police in domestic incident
A New York lawyer was fatally shot by police outside his home in a Connecticut suburb Tuesday morning, after he attacked his family, authorities said.
Christopher Andrews, 51, was standing outside when Fairfield police arrived in response to a 911 call, holding an undescribed weapon. His 15-year-old son was also there, holding a baseball bat, the Hartford Courant reports.
The teen cooperated with police, but Andrews did not respond to orders to drop his weapon and was advancing toward officers when he was shot by a 20-year veteran of the force, Lt. Jim Perez told the newspaper. The teen said he had taken the baseball bat from his father. Andrews had sliced and stabbed his wife and three children, according to police.
His wife and three children were taken from the home to hospitals along with Andrews, who was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife and the youngest child, 12, are in critical condition, police said.
The wife, who was not identified in news accounts by name, “received many injuries to the face and the head, blunt trauma,” Perez said.
The family had lived in the home about 10 years and had no history of interaction with the police.
Andrews practiced on Lexington Avenue in New York City, near Grand Central Terminal, according to the New York Post.
