New York Jets will pay cheerleaders $324K to settle wage lawsuit
The New York Jets will pay $324,000 to 52 current and former cheerleaders to settle a wage lawsuit.
The cheerleaders will receive amounts ranging from about $2,500 to $5,900, report NorthJersey.com and the New York Daily News. The 2014 suit, filed in New Jersey state court, had alleged the cheerleaders received $150 per game in 2012 and 2013, but were not paid for practices and work-related expenses.
A statement by the Jets says the team settled to avoid the expense of litigation, and there was no admission of liability.
The Jets are the fourth team in the National Football League to settle wage lawsuits by cheerleaders, according to the New York Daily News. A fifth suit against the Buffalo Bills is still in litigation.
