New Law School Rating, Same Refrain: Yale Wins
The lawyer rating website Avvo has published a list of the law schools that produce most of its top-rated lawyers.
Four out of five schools with Avvo’s highest average rating also made the top five in the closely watched rankings published U.S. News and World Report. The Avvo top five are:
Yale University (also ranked No. 1 by U.S. News)
Stanford University (tied for second with Harvard in U.S. News)
Harvard University
University of Chicago (ranked seventh by U.S. News)
Columbia University (ranked fourth by U.S. News)
Avvo rates lawyers on a scale of 1 to 10 and posts consumer comments. The company CEO is former Expedia general counsel Mark Britton. He explained why Avvo decided to rank law schools on the Avvo blog.
“This summer we were sitting around the lunch table and someone said, ‘I wonder where the top Avvo-rated lawyers went to law school,’ ” Britton wrote. “Intrigued (and being backed by one of the largest databases of legal information in the country), we ran a couple of queries, and voila. We suddenly had a fascinating glimpse into how the different law schools stacked up.”
