Fifteen lawyers form LeClairRyan are striking out on their own.

The group is forming the law firm Murphy & McGonigle to advise financial services clients facing securities litigation, the Washington Post reports. One of the new co-founders, Thomas McGonigle, told the Post that he and five other lawyers in the group previously worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission, most of them in senior positions.

He said the group is leaving on friendly terms. “We felt being smaller would allow us to be more nimble in terms of our pricing and our ability to take on matters without conflicts,” McGonigle told the Post.

Murphy & McGonigle will have offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; and Richmond, Va., according to a press release. The release also touts a “state-of-the-art litigation support group” based in a “low-overhead environment” of Virginia that will provide cost-effective data management and e-discovery help for the law firm.
