New AG Asked to Review Minnesota Prosecutor’s Office
Several people are urging Attorney General Michael Mukasey to take a look at morale problems in the office of U.S. Attorney Rachel Paulose of Minnesota.
One of them is Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, who initially endorsed Paulose’s nomination but now is concerned about her management style, the New York Times reports.
A federal watchdog agency is investigating Paulose, a 34-year-old lawyer whose leadership style prompted three of her top deputies to step down.
The probe by the Office of Special Counsel centers on whether Paulose mishandled classified documents, retaliated against a staff member who complained about her, and made a racist remark about an employee, sources told the Times. The Washington Post reported in late September that the complaint was filed by her first assistant U.S. attorney, John Marti, who resigned along with two other management-level prosecutors in April.
The New York Times reported at the time that the trio stepped down because they were unhappy with Paulose’s “ideologically driven and dictatorial managerial style.”
