Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough is adding 52 lawyers from a midsize firm and launching four new offices.
The lawyers are joining Nelson Mullins from Bowman and Brooke, Law.com reports.
Nelson Mullins’ new offices will be located in Minneapolis, San Diego, Dallas and Richmond, Virginia.
Law.com said the new lawyers include 31 partners; a Nelson Mullins press release said 22 partners are joining the firm, with another nine partners expected to be added in Dallas “in the near future.”
The group includes lawyers in the automotive, consumer product liability, pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. With the addition of the new lawyers, Nelson Mullins’ overall product liability practice will have more than 150 lawyers.
Nelson Mullins will have more than 900 lawyers in 30 offices in 14 states and Washington, D.C., as a result of the acquisition.
“If you look at us over the last decade, we’ve more than doubled in size,” Jim Lehman, Nelson Mullins’ managing partner, told Law.com in an interview. “This is just another step in that path where we think we need to continue to offer services to clients in the more complex world that we’re in and in the very disruptive legal market that we’re seeing.”
Paul Cereghini, Bowman and Brooke’s chairman, said in a statement to Law.com it respects the departing lawyers’ decision to join a different type of firm.
“The practices of our many remaining professionals are largely unaffected by these decisions and we will continue to serve our clients throughout the country,” Cereghini said. “We look forward to working together, as Bowman and Brooke LLP, now and in the future.”
