Munger Tolles Tops Am Law A-List
The American Lawyer has placed Munger, Tolles & Olson at the top of its A-List, replacing Debevoise & Plimpton, which fell to fifth place.
The top 20 A-List (reg. req.) ranks firms on the basis of four categories: revenue per lawyer, pro bono hours, associate satisfaction and diversity representation.
Debevoise fell in the rankings based on midlevel associate dissatisfaction. An American Lawyer survey had found Debevoise associates complained about “intense client demands,” “heavy workloads” and “stressful atmosphere,” according to the legal magazine.
The top five on the A-List are:
1) Munger, Tolles & Olson
2) Latham & Watkins
3) Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler
4) Weil, Gotshal & Manges
5) Debevoise & Plimpton
New to the list is O’Melveny & Myers, which ranked 16th this year. A big increase in pro bono hours helped boost its ranking. Two other firms managed to get back on the list this year, Sullivan & Cromwell and Covington & Burling.
Firms that fell off the list were Howrey; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi; and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.
