Most Americans Oppose Supreme Court Campaign Finance Ruling
Eighty percent of Americans polled oppose the U.S. Supreme Court’s Jan. 21 ruling that found corporations have a First Amendment right to expressly support political candidates.
The Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 85 percent of Democrats and 76 percent of Republicans opposed the ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Washington Post reports.
Sixty-five percent of all of the respondents “strongly opposed” the ruling and 72 percent favored new laws to lessen its impact. Legislation could bar participation in elections by government contractors, bank bailout recipients or companies with more than 20 percent foreign ownership, the story says.
