Morgan, Lewis & Bockius tops a list of law firms used most often by America’s top 100 companies.

Corporate Counsel magazine researched which law firms represent the top companies in five areas: corporate transactions, torts and negligence, commercial law and contracts litigation, employment and labor litigation, and intellectual property.

The law firms most often mentioned overall in 2008 litigation databases were:

• Morgan, Lewis & Bockius (24 mentions)

• Littler Mendelson (23 mentions)

• Ogletree Deakins (20 mentions)

Tied with 17 mentions apiece were: Jones Day, K&L Gates, Kirkland & Ellis, McGuireWoods and Seyfarth Shaw.

Watkins & Eager was used most often for tort litigation; Cleary Gottlieb and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz for corporate transactions; Reed Smith for commercial law and contracts; and Littler Mendelson for labor and employment.

The publication used Thomson Reuters’s Monitor Suite to determine which law firms represent Fortune 100 companies in federal courts and 30 states included in the database, according to a summary of the methodology.
