Miers Continues to Resist Subpoena
A lawyer for former White House counsel Harriet Miers sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee yesterday confirming she will not testify or provide documents.
The committee had subpoenaed Miers for information relating to the firings of at least eight U.S. attorneys. When she refused, the committee gave Miers until yesterday to change her mind, the Associated Press explains.
House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers Jr. called Miers’ decision “a serious affront to this committee and our constitutional system of checks and balances.” He told AP committee members are “carefully planning our next steps.”
