Meet Paul Deck, the oldest practicing lawyer in Nebraska and Iowa
Paul Deck turned 100 on Sunday, making him the oldest practicing lawyer in Nebraska and Iowa.
Deck still works at his Sioux City law practice, handling mostly divorce and custody cases, the Omaha World-Herald reports in a story also published by the Norfolk Daily News. He practices law with two of his sons, while a third son has his own law practice.
Deck is married to his wife of 73 years, following a similar daily routine, the story says. He rises at 6 a.m. on week days, eats oatmeal with raisins, drives to work and parks a half mile away, and rides his exercise bike after work. He founded the law practice more than 50 years ago, after serving in World War II and practicing for a while at a general practice firm.
Deck and his wife, Marie, have traveled the world, though more recent vacations have been bus trips to Branson, Missouri. They are Huskers fans, but no longer attend the football games.
Family members speculate that Deck’s longevity could be attributable to a healthy lifestyle, family relationships, a positive attitude and genetics. Deck offers another reason for his long life.“God’s will, I guess,” he tells the World-Herald.
