In the latest chapter in an ongoing growth saga that has clearly put McGuireWoods into the BigLaw ranks, the firm is now significantly expanding its international footprint.

The 900-attorney firm has just announced the planned acquisition of a 36-lawyer London-based international partnership, Grundberg Mocatta Rakison, reports the Charlotte Business Journal.

Although the firm has existing offices in Brussels and Kazakhstan, this will be its first foray into London, reports the Blog of Legal Times.

“This is a great day in the history of McGuireWoods,” says firm chairman Richard Cullen in a McGuireWoods press release. “We have sought to expand our overseas reach with a London office for some time. We are very fortunate not only to gain as partners such a talented group of internationally respected attorneys, but also to join forces with a firm that shares our values.”

Last year, McGuireWoods merged with Helms Mulliss & Wicker, in what was then a hot law firm mergers market in Charlotte, N.C.

The latest law firm wedding between McGuireWoods and Grundberg Mocatta is scheduled to take place on May 1.
