Man takes plea in case over Facebook comments he made about murder trial
Days before his jury trial was set to begin on Monday over “storm the courthouse” remarks he made on Facebook about a controversial murder trial, a Kansas man has accepted a plea deal.
Samuel McCrory, 22, pleaded guilty Thursday in the Sedgwick County case to making a criminal threat and three firearms charges, reports KAKE. Prosecutors agreed to drop six more firearms charges.
Initially charged only with the criminal threat, concerning his Facebook comments about a murder trial then ongoing at the Sedgwick County Courthouse, McCrory faced new charges after the case brought to the attention of law enforcement that he had a felony record as a juvenile.
Because he had been convicted within the last decade, McCrory, who was known around Wichita for his public open-carry advocacy, was prohibited from having firearms that otherwise could have been legal.
