Man Convicted in Case that Exonerated Another
A Los Angeles jury has convicted a man for 11 murders over a 10-year-period in a case that helped exonerate another inmate.
The sentencing hearing for Chester Dewayne Turner, a former pizza deliveryman and crack dealer, starts today, according to the Los Angeles Times. DNA tests by a cold case unit linked him to several unsolved murders as well as three killings that supposedly had been solved.
David Allen Jones, a mentally retarded part-time janitor, had been convicted of the three murders after confessing he had sex and took drugs with the victims. Jones later received $720,000 for the wrongful conviction.
