Losing litigant is charged in attack at Virginia law firm
A losing litigant is accused of storming into a Virginia law firm on Wednesday where he assaulted employees and kicked a dog.
Kevin O’Hara, 46, of Amelia County, Virginia, is being held without bond in the incident at Owen & Owens in Midlothian, report WTVR and WRIC. He is charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of simple assault, malicious wounding, strangulation, cruelty to animals and trespassing.
Owen & Owens partner Samuel Kaufman said in an interview with WTVR that the attacker entered the firm about an hour before closing. Kaufman showed the television station a cut on his chin that he said was caused by the attacker, who was allegedly carrying a box cutter.
O’Hara was an opposing party in a matter being handled by Owen & Owens “and was extremely distressed over the positive result Owen & Owens obtained on behalf of its client,” according to a law firm statement. A source told WRIC that O’Hara was unhappy with the result in a divorce case.
The law firm statement expressed thanks to employees who were able to subdue the attacker and gratitude to the Chesterfield County Police Department. Its website lists four partners and three associates who work at the firm.
