The legal services industry added 4,800 jobs in January following a loss of 1,500 jobs in December.

Despite the improved outlook in January, the industry still had 36,800 fewer jobs than in January 2020, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The industry has gained jobs most months since April 2020, when revised numbers showed the sector lost 68,000 jobs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The legal services sector had 1,126,100 jobs in January 2021, up from 1,121,300 jobs in December 2020 and 1,122,800 jobs in November 2020, according to the seasonally adjusted and revised numbers.

The December job loss number has been revised since the bureau initially reported a loss of only 200 jobs for the month.
