The legal services industry gained 3,800 jobs in April, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released Friday by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But the job hike is a drop in the bucket compared to the growth in jobs since April 2020, a month after the coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic. The legal industry has gained 40,600 jobs since then, when the legal services sector had only 1,092,100 jobs.

April 2020 was a bad month for legal jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics had reported revised numbers last year showing that the legal sector lost 68,000 jobs that month.

The sector had 1,132,700 jobs in April 2021, up from 1,128,900 jobs in March 2021 and 1,128,800 jobs in February 2021, according to seasonally adjusted and revised numbers. The March number has been revised upward since last month and the February number downward, so that March now shows a gain of 100 jobs. The bureau initially reported a loss of 1,400 legal jobs in March 2021.
