Leading IP partner leaps from Steptoe to Sheppard Mullin
An intellectual property litigator who was one of the founders of Steptoe Johnson’s office in Century City, Calif., has leapt to the local office of Los Angeles-based Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton.
Partner Michael R. “Mike” Heimbold began work there on Friday, Reuters reports.
He said he made the move because his new firm has a bigger footprint both in California and internationally. Sheppard Mullin has about 600 lawyers in 16 offices throughout the world; Steptoe, which is based in Washington, D.C., has 500 lawyers in nine offices.
Nick Setty, who serves as co-chair of the intellectual property department at Sheppard Mullin, said the firm’s patent litigation practice group has doubled from 45 lawyers to almost 90 during the past two years.
A Sheppard Mullin press release provides additional details.
