A cash infusion from California’s Administrative Office of the Courts is helping San Francisco courts avoid more than half of their planned layoffs.

The San Francisco courts will get $3.15 million in emergency money, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. San Francisco Presiding Judge Katherine Feinstein had estimated in July the courts in the city would have to lay off 200 employees, more than 40 percent of its staff. At the time, Feinstein had warned that “the civil justice system in San Francisco is collapsing.”

Feinstein later trimmed the estimate to 177 layoffs. As a result of the new cash, she says, about 75 people will face layoffs.
