Lawyer's Letter Bans Crusading Mom from Eight McDonald's Restaurants
A college instructor and mother on a crusade to clean up children’s play areas has been warned by a lawyer for a McDonald’s franchisee that she is banned from eight restaurants in Arizona.
Erin Carr Jordan tells the Arizona Republic she received the letter from lawyer James Stipe by hand delivery at 7 a.m. on Monday. Stipe, of Burch Cracchiolo, tells Carr Jordan she is “prohibited from entering” eight listed restaurants in Gilbert, Chandler and Phoenix.
“If you are represented by counsel and have any questions, please provide that person my letter,” the document advises. “Please do not attempt to contact me directly.”
Carr Jordan has tested restaurant play areas for bacteria in six different states, garnering her press coverage in print and on television, the story says. She posted a YouTube video of dirt found in a tube for crawling children at one Arizona McDonald’s. At another, she informed the manager that the play area harbored antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and warned customers to wash their hands.
Carr Jordan hopes her crusade will result in more government oversight of restaurant play areas.
McDonald’s spokeswoman Dayna Proud told the Arizona Republic that a franchisee’s attorney sent the letter because “recent actions by Dr. Carr Jordan have become disruptive to the employees and customers within our franchisee’s restaurants.” Proud says the company has been communicating with Carr Jordan and is committed to keeping its play areas safe.
