Lawyer Wins Long Island Marathon Again, 'Would Have Liked to Run Faster'
The last time Dan McGrath won the Long Island marathon, in 2008, he had to go back to the University of Notre Dame for a law school exam the next morning.
But yesterday the 27-year-old New York practitioner was on home turf when he beat the heat and humidity to win again with a time of two hours, 29 minutes and 44 seconds, reports the Explore LI blog of Newsday.
He had the lead all the way from the nine-mile mark.
“Today was one of the tougher days. I would’ve liked to have run faster,” McGrath, of Lynbrook, told Newsday after the race.
Slower runners who hadn’t reached the 10-mile mark within two hours and 18 minutes—that is to say, on pace for a six-hour finish—were diverted by course officials to the half-marathon, the newspaper says.
