Lawyer Who Sued Over 109 Missing Square Feet Wins $150K Settlement
A New York lawyer has won a $150,000 settlement in his suit against a Brooklyn developer that claimed the living space in the condo he wanted to buy was 109 square feet smaller than advertised.
Rishi Bhandari and his wife, Heather, gave up an additional $20,000 offered in the settlement to keep the details confidential, the New York Times reports. They will receive $150,000 plus the return of their deposit, with interest.
The Bhandaris had agreed to pay $795,000 for a two-bedroom apartment, but they sought a price cut after measurements showed 634 square feet of living area. The developer, Two Trees Management, had touted 743 square feet of living area, the Bhandaris said. The total size of the condo, however, was 1,137 square feet as advertised.
The settlement bans the Bhandaris from renting or buying any apartment from Two Trees for four years, the story says.
