Lawyer Ordered to Pay $635K for Bad-Faith Suits Against Ex-Partners
An Illinois lawyer labeled “out of control” by federal appeals judge Richard Posner has been ordered to pay more than $635,000 to his former law partners for filing bad-faith lawsuits against them.
A federal judge sanctioned class action lawyer Rex Carr after an opinion by Posner upheld dismissal of one of the lawyer’s lawsuits and said sanctions should be imposed. U.S. District Judge David Herndon ordered Carr to pay $635,171 and to submit any future suits against his partners to the judge for review, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Carr has been battling his former partners at Korein Tillery in eight lawsuits filed in Illinois and one in Missouri, raising the ire of Posner, a judge on the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Carr did not comment when contacted by the News-Democrat.
