Lawyer Initially Represented Woman Now Suspected of Slaying Him
In 2005, attorney Mark Hafen represented Verginia Turner in a case brought by a former boyfriend who was seeking–and got–a restraining order against her.
By 2009, Hafen was seeking court help himself. After allowing Turner to move in with him around September of that year, the California family law, bankruptcy and civil practitioner served her with notice in December that she had to leave within 30 days, reports the Herald.
A court case ensued, and by this summer Turner, who is now 42, was evicted from Hafen’s home in Salinas. However, Turner still seemed obsessed with him, says a secretary for the 58-year-old attorney.
Last week, his body was found in his home, after he failed to show up at work for two days running, the newspaper recounts. The official cause of death isn’t known, although authorities have said he suffered head trauma.
Turner is being held in lieu of $1 million bail in the Monterrey County Jail, initially on suspicion of killing him although a judge today said she has been charged with his murder. Her arraignment has been postponed until later this week as she looks for a lawyer to represent her, reports the Californian.
