Law school offered buyouts to all its tenured faculty
Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington, dealt with a 28 percent drop in enrollment by offering buyouts to every one of its 17 professors.
So far, four faculty members accepted the offer, the Inlander reports in a story noted by TaxProf Blog.
Law school dean Jane Korn told the Inlander that she didn’t see the need to eliminate any other positions.
The law school’s application pool dropped by 36 percent from 2011 to 2014, and its enrollment dropped 28 percent during the same time period. Applications to all law schools have dropped about 40 percent since 2011, Korn told the Inlander.
