Law Profs from Wisconsin, Illinois Die on Christmas Eve
Two law professors noted for their publications have died on Christmas Eve.
University of Illinois law professor Larry Ribstein, who wrote for the Truth on the Market blog, died at the age of 65 in Fairfax, Va., the Champaign News-Gazette reports. He has expertise in corporate and securities law. His article, “The Death of Big Law,” had asserted that lawyer regulations prevent a focus on the consumer.
Ribstein was taking a walk with his wife when he began feeling ill, according to George Mason University law professor Henry Butler, who co-wrote several books and articles with Ribstein. Ribstein died 36 hours later.
Meanwhile, retired University of Wisconsin law professor Jane Larson died in her home in Madison at the age of 53. The University of Wisconsin and Madison.com have obituaries. Larson has written on feminist legal theory and property law.
The University of Wisconsin says Larson died unexpectedly from natural causes.
