Law Prof Warns Inauguration Committee of Possible Potty Parity Suit
A law professor has warned the Presidential Inaugural Committee that it could face a lawsuit over a likely portable toliet shortage during the event.
John Banzhaf of George Washington University law school has served notice that the committee could face a lawsuit for failing to provide more portable toilets for women than men, MSNBC reports. Banzhaf says there should be double the number of women’s toilets, and inauguration staffers should have the authority to direct women to men’s toilets, if necessary.
Banzhaf, who has been called the father of potty parity, has sent warnings to the Presidential Inaugural Committee and the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. In a statement, he cites five federal decisions, including two at the appellate level, holding that inadequate access to restroom facilities for women can be a violation of federal law barring sex discrimination.
