Kansas City's Polsinelli & Shughart Firms in Merger Talks
Two big Kansas City law firms are talking about getting bigger.
Polsinelli Shalton Flanigan Suelthaus and Shughart Thomson & Kilroy are discussing a possible merger, and say in a joint press release (PDF) that they are “encouraged by the potential synergies between the two firms,” reports the Kansas City Star.
Together, the two firms have about 500 lawyers, which would make them second in size only to Husch Blackwell Sanders and Shook Hardy & Bacon, among law firms with Kansas City roots, the newspaper writes.
W. Russell Welsh, chief executive for Polsinelli, which is best-known for its business and transactional work, says his firm is “looking closely at whether the additional depth of expertise and the geographic reach” that would be created by a merger would make it worth pursuing. Shughart offers commercial litigation expertise and offices in Denver and Phoenix to expand Polsinelli’s presence in the Midwest, New York and Washington, D.C.
