Justice Confesses to Egg McMuffin Weakness in ‘Little Billy’s Letters’ Book
Justice Clarence Thomas thought he was answering a 10-year-old’s query when he sang the praises of the Egg McMuffin.
Unemployed writer Bill Geerhart posed as “little Billy” seeking answers to life’s perplexing questions when he sent letters—and received replies—from well-known people including Thomas and then-Attorney General Janet Reno. His book chronicling the replies, Little Billy’s Letters: An Incorrigible Inner Child’s Correspondence with the Famous, Infamous and Just Plain Bewildered, is due out next week, the Washington Post reports.
In a Q-and-A with the Post, Geerhart said now retired Justice David H. Souter wasn’t as enthusiastic about McDonald’s fare as was Thomas. “While Supreme Court Justice David Souter’s dour response on the subject of his favorite McDonald’s food seems fitting, I was surprised that Clarence Thomas was so effusive in his praise of the Egg McMuffin,” Geerhart said.
Prior coverage noted on Above the Law had Thomas responding to little Billy this way: “I like the Egg McMuffin. Actually, I like almost everything there.”
Janet Reno also replied to little Billy when she was serving as attorney general. The question was whether Batman or the Terminator was the better crime fighter. “I read Batman comics when I was your age so I know of his efforts to fight crime better than I know the Terminator’s work,” Reno writes.
Asked about news that will be in the new book, Geerhart told the Post, “The major news from the book may be that serial killers are more thoughtful and responsive to inquiries from elementary students asking advice about dropping out of school than are celebrities.”
