Justice Ginsburg set to make animated cameo in ‘Lego Movie 2’
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be back on the big screen Feb. 8 in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
Ginsburg will make a cameo appearance as an animated character in the film, as revealed in a trailer released Sunday, report the BBC and USA Today.
Ginsburg gave permission for her likeness to be used, but she doesn’t do any voice work in the movie, according to director Mike Mitchell, who spoke with USA Today. Her persona also will become an official Lego Movie figurine.
The movie depicts play universes created by a brother and sister. Ginsburg appears in the girl’s universe, Mitchell told USA Today.
The movie’s producers and screenwriters explained their decision to include Ginsburg in this statement: “We just were trying to think of people who should be immortalized in Lego and who seem fun at weddings.”
It’s not Ginsburg’s first treatment in film. A Ginsburg documentary, RBG, received an Academy Award nomination for best documentary on Tuesday, CNN reports.
A second film chronicling Ginsburg’s legal fight against gender discrimination, On the Basis of Sex, didn’t receive an Oscar nomination. But at least one publication included it on a list of Oscar snubs to female filmmakers. Felicity Jones portrays Ginsburg in the movie.
