Terrorism
Judiciary Committee to Get Surveillance Documents
The White House has agreed to show classified documents about a terrorism surveillance program to members of the House Judiciary Committee.
The offer by White House counsel Fred Fielding could lead to a compromise on a bill to extend authorization for the secret wiretap program, the New York Times reports. The administration hopes to persuade key committee members to accept a provision that would immunize telecommunications companies from liability if they cooperated with the government after Sept. 11, the Associated Press reports.
