Judge Rejects Willie Nelson Plea Deal That Included $500 Fine, Says Singer Got Favorable Treatment
A judge in West Texas has rejected a plea deal in which country singer Willie Nelson would have been fined $500 in exchange for his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Instead, Hudspeth County Judge Becky Dean-Walker told the Associated Press, Nelson should be charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, which could result in his getting some jail time.
“It’s not right simply because he doesn’t do that for anybody else,” she said of prosecutor Kit Bramblett’s suggested plea deal.
Bramblett didn’t respond to the news agency’s request for comment, and a publicist for Nelson declined to comment.
