A suspended New Jersey judge has been reinstated to the bench after prosecutors dropped charges that alleged she helped her then-boyfriend avoid arrest when he was wanted in an armed robbery case.

Prosecutors dropped the charges against Judge Carlia Brady last week after a state appeals court ruled that the former boyfriend, Jason Prontnicki, could not be compelled to testify in her trial, report the New Jersey Law Journal, NJ.com and MyCentralJersey.com.

An order by the New Jersey Supreme Court said Brady is reinstated to the civil division courts in Middlesex County.

Brady was charged and suspended from the bench after Prontnicki was found at her home in 2013. Her lawyer had argued Brady wasn’t required to tell police that Prontnicki was at her home. They were arrested about an hour after Protnicki arrived, the indictment had alleged.

Prontnicki is serving a 10-year sentence for robbing a pharmacy while armed with a crowbar. His case is on appeal, and he had cited a right against self-incrimination to avoid testifying in Brady’s case.

The New Jersey appeals court ruled last week that Brady still had a right against self-incrimination after his conviction.
