Latham & Watkins is requiring its lawyers in New York City to be in the office four days per week beginning in 2025.

Latham is among a handful of law firms that have imposed a four-day requirement, report Law360 and Bloomberg Law. Lawyers can choose which days that they will be in the office.

Latham thinks that “working and being together in person is essential,” according to an email viewed by Bloomberg Law.

“Our continued success in large part rests on training, developing, collaborating and connecting with each other,” said Marc Jaffe, Latham’s New York City managing partner, in the email.

Other firms requiring four days in the office include Davis Polk & Wardwell; Simpson Thacher & Bartlett; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Ropes & Gray; Vinson & Elkins; and Weil, Gotshal & Manges, according to the articles.

A June 2023 report by property brokerage company Savills found that three days per week in the office was the norm among firms with office attendance policies, according to Law360.
