Associates in the United Kingdom are feeling a little more satisfied with their jobs, according to a Legal Week survey.

Only 19 percent said they planned to leave private practice eventually, compared to 31 percent in 2005 when the study was first conducted, Legal Week reports. The change was even more pronounced when just the women’s responses were examined. This year 24 percent said they planned to leave private practice, compared to 37 percent in 2005.

The publication attributes the morale change to heavy investment in associates, new quality of life initiatives, and the lack of alternatives created by the economic downturn.

The survey also found that partnership was increasingly cited as a goal, a finding that some senior lawyers attributed to efforts to make partnership more attainable.

Fifty percent of the 3,200 associates surveyed said partnership was their ultimate goal, compared to 47 percent who claimed that goal last year. Thirteen percent said they had a goal of a partnership alternative, compared to 10 percent last year.
