The woman chronicled in the Jennifer Lawrence movie Joy is the mother of a former associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
The lawyer, Robert “Bobby” Miranne, told the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) he became a lawyer because he saw how his mother’s lawyer helped advise her as she built a career. Miranne’s mother is Joy Mangano, inventor of the Miracle Mop.
Joy chronicles how Mangano, a struggling single mother, became a product inventor, initially achieving success through Miracle Mop sales on QVC.
Miranne quit Cravath two years ago to help manage the growth of home shopping network parent HSN Inc. and to help with the film. HSN bought Mangano’s company in 1999.
“My role is to really think about what are the next big steps we can take as a company,” he says.
