International insurance law firm Kennedys is gaining five U.S. offices through its merger with 100-lawyer Carroll, McNulty & Kull.

Kennedys already has an office in Miami. The merger is scheduled to go in effect June 1 with New Jersey-based Carroll McNulty, and will give Kennedys offices in that state as well as New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas, the New Jersey Law Journal (sub. req.) reports. A press release is here.

The merged firm will have nearly 1,100 lawyers and will be called Kennedys CMK in the United States. It will continue to be called Kennedys in the United Kingdom, where the firm was founded, and elsewhere in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Carroll McNulty focuses on insurance law, but it also works in practice areas such as construction, real estate and health care. Chris Carroll, a co-founder of the firm, tells the New Jersey Law Journal that the combined firm will likely continue to expand.

“I would anticipate you’ll see more office openings throughout the United States,” he said. “It’s not going to be willy-nilly. It’s going to be strategic where it makes its sense for our clients.”
