A Washington state inmate attacked his own lawyer during a sentencing hearing last Friday and then struggled with four bailiffs in a return court appearance on Wednesday.
The inmate, 27-year-old Jose Linares, appeared to resist the bailiffs who escorted him into the Yakima courtroom, report KOMO News and KIMA-TV. Linares was wearing restraints and a mask to prevent him from spitting.
At that point, Linares’ attorney, David Therrien-Power said the attack created a conflict of interest and he no longer wanted to represent Linares, the Yakima Herald-Republic reports. The sentencing hearing has been rescheduled for July 5.
During the Friday hearing, Linares kicked his lawyer in the lower leg, YakimaHerald.com reported in a prior story.
