In its expansion quest, Dentons picks up Scotland's largest independent law firm
Dentons recently announced a merger with the Scotland law firm Maclay Murray & Spens, which has 62 partners.
Maclay Murray is one of the biggest independent firms in Scotland, Legal Week reports, and the firm also has offices in London. In 2016, the law firm reported a 3 percent increase in revenue, but profits per partner fell 12 percent, according to the article.
“We’re following the needs of our clients and prospective clients. They’re looking further afield for international opportunities. This merger also gives us the scale we need in London, which will assist with further opportunities for the firm,” Maclay Murray chief executive Kenneth Shand told Legal Week.
The announcement follows news in May that Dentons was merging with firms in Peru, Brazil and the country of Georgia.
In the United States, law firms announced 52 mergers by July 2017, which is a record number, Law360 reported (sub. req.) In 2016, Altman Weil reported 85 law firm mergers and acquisitions
