In its push to become the first truly national U.S. law firm, 10,000-plus lawyer firm Dentons has announced that it is combining with Utah firm Durham Jones & Pinegar.
Durham Jones has nearly 100 lawyers across Utah offices in Salt Lake City, Lehi, Ogden and St. George, according to an Aug. 11 press release. The combination is part of a Dentons expansion effort dubbed Project Golden Spike.
The Utah law firm—which was the fourth largest in the state—will now be called Dentons Durham Jones Pinegar. The combination extends Dentons’ reach to 188 locations, including 37 in the United States.
Joe Andrew, Dentons global chairman, told Law.com that he expects more law firms to join Dentons by late 2020 or early 2021. Dentons offers a dual-partnership model that allows combining firms to keep control over their own governance, compensation and hiring. The firms benefit from Dentons’ technology, quality standards and attorney network.
Dentons has previously announced combinations with Bingham Greenebaum Doll and Cohen & Grigsby.
Salt Lake City is one the fastest growing cities in the United States, and it has a higher level of corporate legal spending than 17 of 26 countries in Europe, according to Law.com. It also has more industrial banks than any U.S. city.
Durham Jones & Pinegar does legal work in fields that include banking, complex business law, finance, mergers and acquisitions, commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, real estate, tax, estate planning, employment, family law and immigration.
