ICE Won't Deport Mom of Girl Who Questioned First Lady
The mother of a Maryland second-grade girl who questioned First Lady Michelle Obama about the Obama administration’s immigration policy Wednesday won’t be deported.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency spokesman Matthew Chandler said in an e-mail to the Washington Post’s Federal Eye blog that the agency investigates cases based on solid law enforcement work, not “classroom Q and As.”
During a televised event at her school to promote healthy eating, the girl had asked the First Lady why the president was “taking everybody away that doesn’t have papers,” the Washington Post reported.
Obama tried to reassure the girl that people “with the right kind of papers” wouldn’t be deported.
“But my mom doesn’t have any papers,” the girl blurted out.
