Howard Rice Names New Chairman
The head of the litigation department at Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin is the new chairman of the San Francisco-based law firm.
Douglas Winthrop takes the place of Lawrence Rabkin, who ends his three-year term in the position, the Daily Journal reports (sub. req.). The 45-year-old Winthrop is among the next generation of leaders, the firm’s chief marketing officer, John Buchanan, told the publication. Rabkin, 61, becomes chair emeritus, according to a press release.
Winthrop plans to maintain his practice as he helps develop strategic goals and chairs the management committee. Michelle Johnson, the firm’s executive director, will oversee day-to-day operations of the firm in the newly created position of chief executive officer, the story says.
“The idea,” Winthrop told the Daily Journal, “is that someone like me, who is in the prime of their practice and is interested in growing it, we set up a structure that will allow me to do that.”
Winthrop said the firm will “stick to its knitting,” handling the kind of work it has always done.
