Heller Ehrman Latest Law Firm to Push Back Associate Start Dates
Heller Ehrman has pushed back the start date for its 54 new associates from Oct. 13 to Jan. 20, joining several other law firms that have made similar moves in response to the economic downturn.
Heller Ehrman will pay the associates a $10,000 stipend over three months, the Daily Journal reports (sub. req.).
The law firm has also withdrawn from the on-campus interviewing process at some law schools, Legal Pad and Above the Law report. The firm’s director of lawyer recruiting, Michael Gotham, told Legal Pad the firm will conduct on-campus interviews only at around 20 schools where the firm has had the most success in the past.
Other law firms that have pushed back start dates for at least some of their associates include Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, and Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, which delayed start dates for three of its litigation associates by one year.
